The professional commission given to Adrian Tyler consisted in documenting the construction process of Frank O. Gehery’s Hotel in the grounds of the Marques de Riscal Winery. However, the temporary consideration of the images, grouped together in diptychs that repeat the point of view at different moments of the building process, gives the series a conceptual vision in which the ideas of process and transformation appear. The ‘pure’ space does not appear (which in this case would be a vision of the landscape) nor does the final stage: the inhabited architecture. Tyler’s project transfers static concepts, such as those of space and architecture, to the scope of a story, of a change in status that is developed over time. But the object of his photographs is a building. A disturbing building that has come to radically change the horizon of the traditional village of Elciego, a transformation on a Mediterranean and European scale.
