Adrian Tyler takes us by the hand in this beautiful work through an incredible route of low houses, sheds, barns, byres and walls, elements that trace a Spanish calligraphy of unexpected chromatic and compositional richness. Its anthropological significance is subtle and ambiguous. It speaks of scarcity and self-construction on the edge of the social abyss, but also of the essentiality of raw materials, of rough intimacy with the land and the climate, and of access through colorful industrial doors to enigmatic spatialities. Tyler’s camera portrays the legacy of anonymous hands that made a virtue out of necessity, and at the same time denounces the lamentable devaluation of the peasant world in today’s society: a hypnotic and moving journey.
