Monolith

2018–present

Early Vanity Painting depicts symbols that show the transient nature of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death, in fact, all major philosophical teachings tell us that world is transient, therefore, all our experience of it will be transient and fleeting. Symbols often used in this genre include skulls, rotten fruit, smoke, flowers and butterflies. The project Monolith looks instead at geological time to try to find a different perspective to our current situation where the harm we have done to the place we live is manifest in almost everything. If we situate ourselves on the geological timeline then it seems that we have done the most damage to our own selves and any idea that we can “save the earth” actually means to save our own selves.
